subject line: when children get their way.

chesapeake, virginia

sometimes, the court takes children away from their families. sometimes, the court tries so hard to insert fathers into children’s lives that it hurts the mothers. when my nieces were sent to live with their fathers, we did everything they wanted. we let them make the rules. and now, they want nothing to do with us. me. my family. who have always been 100% involved. we’re now told to let go. they don’t want us anymore. they have turned into their fathers. not just property of the men who took them, but carbon copies of them as well. my ten and twelve year old nieces have decided that i’m not their aunt anymore.

and i feel like i’ve died.
